Story:
Koizumi Saki, an ordinary school girl living with her foster mother, was suddenly dragged to the headquarter of the giant yakuza group, Koougumi. She then was told that her father, who she thought had been long dead, was the boss of this yakuza group and died only recently. Not only that but, her father actually picked out a fiancee for her too. She then was reluctantly persuaded by Ryuu and the others into inheriting her late father's position as the head of the group. How would she fair with all these new men and drastic changes in her life?
Main Characters:
- Koizumi Saki (小泉 沙紀): Main character of the story. A girl who led an ordinary life but was told she's the daughter of a late yakuza boss out of nowhere. Reluctantly started to live with the yakuza group and seems to have agreed to think about becoming the boss.
- Nayuta Ryuu (那由多 龍): Entered Kouugumi approximately 10 years ago and is now the well-liked second-in-command of the group. He seems to have high respect for the late boss and he was the one who went to greet Saki after the boss' death. Despite his position, he is so very "dedicated" to Saki that sometimes he seems like a puppy and gets jealous of the most absurd things.
- Asou Yoshiyuki (朝生 義之): The "mind" of the group. Graduated from a famous law school and knows some very powerful people. He's in charge of running the finances of Koougumi and the famous Sakura Consultant group which actually belongs to Koougumi. He wants to gain control of Koougumi and would stop at nothing to accomplish that.
- Amane Keigo (天音 京吾): Saki's classmate and also a member of Koougumi. He is nice but lacks a presence. And because of that, he gets bullied a lot in school and is the errand boy in Koougumi.
- Mutou Ichirou (武藤 一郎): Art teacher at Saki's school, and is also Saki's homeroom teacher. Very lazy and cannot be bothered to do anything, so he's almost always sleeping. Has zero survival skills and generally makes people want to take care of him. He is in fact a genius Tattooist called "Mui" who is very famous in the gangster world.
- Haitani Jin (灰谷 仁): Saki's school's doctor. A very blunt but talented person and has a long history with Ryuu. Aside from being a school doctor, he also works as a "dark doctor" who takes secretly takes care of yakuza patients.
- Kitagawa Taisei (喜多川 戴正): The owner of the flower shop Saki worked part-time at. He is actually a detective in charge of "violence groups" but he is very nice to Saki and often drops by Koougumi for dinner (?!).
Review:
- Gameplay: 4
- Graphics: 8
- Sound: 6
- Length: 8
- Replayability: 9
- Overall: 7
Gameplay: Not much of one. Although Otome games usually do not have groundbreaking gameplay, this game was really a visual novel with a few choices stuffed in. But what I find to be very nice is the amount of humor incorporated into the story. Not to say that other Otome games or even non-Otome games do not have humor, but rather, this game is loaded with humorous situations/exchanges unlike any other. Although when you are going through the "climax" of a specific character's story the humor lessens a bit, but even in some such cases they managed to stick in one or two. And oh, it doesn't just have a "skip read/all" function, you can actually just jump right to the next selection/unread text, which I did like but would have liked more if it didn't sorta freeze the game for a bit if there's a lot of text to jump over.
Graphics: Pretty nice. Although It's like normal Otome games, 2D avatars of characters that pop up during the story, there's also sometimes such avatars of the main character the player is playing (pretty rare) as well as a mini picture of the main character's head shower her expressions on the bottom left corner. Even though there's not much innovation in the graphics, it still deserves a high score mainly due to 2 things: 1) very good looking characters. =P what more is there to say? eye candy~ 2)there are those occasional CGs with hilarious chibi depictions of the characters and the situation, which adds onto the overall humor presented by the script.
Sound: It was alright although not really remarkable. The music helped to set the ambiance pretty well for certain scenes and the game is fully voiced (meaning even the main character and very minor characters get voices =P which doesn't happen too often in Otome games). the cast for the characters all did really great jobs, although I didn't quite like the main character's seiyuu as much. Not to say I disliked her, in fact she did a good job and her voice was pleasant, but, she was so...loud...during...you-know-what-scenes.
Length: It really isn't that the game is long (if you are fast forwarding, you can go through the game in a couple of minutes with pauses in between to make selection choices) but rather, the stories are long. Even after you make your last selection choice for a particular ending, you have to sit through a loooong ending to that story, and there are occasional epilogues to some endings too. So, i gave the game a high length score because you really do spend a long time reading the stories =P
Replayability: Since there are several characters with multiple endings each you can work on, of course it would have a high replayability score. Not much more to say there.
Overall: The final judgment? I liked it, I recommend it; if you are into Otome games of course. But yeah, like I previously mentioned, there isn't so much "gaming" as to story reading. But that's the norm in Otome games. I really found the humor refreshing and liked the chibi CGs a lot too. Oh, but do keep in mind that this is an 18+ game =P Anyhow, check it out if you know Japanese and get the chance to ^^.
